International African Penguin Day 2 October 2010

Why the decline?
Over the years, the effects of climate change and pollution have taken their toll, as food stocks begin to diminish, and their natural habitat shrinks due to human population growth and the disturbance of their natural nesting areas.

So, what are we doing about it?
It is for this reason that uShaka will be hosting International Penguin Day on 2 October 2010, with special penguin appearances in the dolphin shows and kiddies penguin art opportunities at the penguin feeds shows!

What can you do?

  • Spread the word about these lovable creatures, and educate our guests about this.
  • Eat only fish that are not threatened, and help to conserve the African Penguin’s food supply.
  • Respect Marine Protected Areas on our coastlines.
  • Lessen climate change by living a lifestyle that encourages re-use, recycling and a reduction of unnecessary items that will be discarded. Is it really necessary to use a straw to drink a cool drink?
  • Volunteer to help with programs that are run to clean birds affected by oil spills.
